Keeping hope alive statement on Oct 7th 2024 - بالرغم من كل شيء، أملُنا حي في الله

The former Latin Patriarch Michel Sabbah, and members of the Christian Reflection group wrote a powerful statement one year after the war on Gaza and the West Bank.

"After a year of constant war, as the cycle of death continues unabated, we feel the need as Christians and as citizens to seek out the hope that comes from our faith. First, we must admit that we are exhausted, paralyzed by grief and fear. We are staring into the darkness. The entire region is in the grip of bloodshed that continues to escalate and spares no one. Before our eyes, our beloved Holy Land and the entire region are being reduced to ruins."

Kairos Palestine's visit to South Africa

37881659 1951151834949119 4281657918199169024 o

A Kairos Palestine delegation visited South Africa for a week. The delegation was: Father Jamal Khader, Mr. Rifat Kassis and Ms. Muna Nassar. The delegation met with many Christian and Islamic leaders, leaders of some churches, the Palestinian ambassador, the staff of the Palestinian embassy and representatives of different ministries, official institutions and political parties, including representatives of the ANC and many civil society groups, pro-Palestinian groups and representatives of the South African Resistance. The Kairos delegation stressed the need to strengthen the awareness of churches and civil society about the plight of the Palestinian people as a result of the Israeli occupation and the Apartheid regime imposed by the occupation on us wherever they are as the South African community has suffered apartheid, racism and oppression for many decades. The delegation also met former South African Archbishop Desmond Tutu.

Gaza Visit

For the first time, a delegation from the Palestinian Christian Initiative -Kairos Palestine - conducted a two-day solidarity visit to the Gaza Strip on March 6 and 7, 2018. The delegation was headed by HB Patriarch Michel Sabbah and included Rev. Dr. Mitri Raheb and Father Dr. Jamal Khader.

Voices from Palestine: Being the legs and arms of God

As a student back in the seventies, it took a while for Rifat Kassis to come to terms with being both a good Christian, and a Palestinian living under occupation. His call to become a reverend in the Lutheran Church in Palestine brought him to Germany to study theology 40 years ago. But his enthusiasm quickly faded when he realized the discrepancies between his own faith and the realities in his home country. Without any guidance or support from clergy, he felt he could not finish the studies, so he returned home and became politically active instead.

The Prophetic Church is moving forward!

The past weeks haven been weeks of a lot of lobbying and advocating all around the world. Kairos Palestine is proud and thankful of its partners all around the world, who share our Call for a Just Peace and creative resistance against the illegal Israeli occupation. Clearly, the ongoing achievements of the worldwide Christian movement for Palestine can be seen as a success in countering increasing hegemonic and heavily biased narratives and attacks from the Israeli government and its worldwide lobby institutions. The BDS-resolutions in so many churches clearly give a signal to the world, that it is not right, neither morally nor legally, to occupy land and oppress the people living in it. With concrete actions like that of the Methodists, the Presbyterians, the Universalists or the UCC South Africa and the Quakers, Baptists and United Church of Christ last year, we show the world that we all have a responsibility to work and campaign for justice and peace, not only in Palestine, but everywhere where life in dignity is endangered!

The Road towards a Just Peace? - A letter from Kairos Sweden

The Kairos Palestine document, a theological-political analysis of Palestinian Christians of their situation and a cry for solidarity from the churches of the world, contains a double-strategy which is a special contribution from the churches to the economic advocacy work for a just peace in Israel/Palestine.

Ecumenical Prayer for Peace in Jerusalem

Palestinians from the Westbank are banned from entering Jerusalem during the Holy Week, including Good Friday. We are very sorry for all who could not come to our Prayer for Peace, the launching event for this years Easter Alert. We were thinking of you and want to share some pictures! Patriarch emerit. Michel Sabbah during his homily: Jesus told us, "In the world you will have hardship; but be courageous. I have conquered the world" (Jn16: 33). We pray and we believe that God will hear us, and He will triumph upon evil.

Open Letter of Bishop Desmond Tutu to Deutscher Evangelischer Kirchentage.

May 30, 2015
Dear Sisters and Brothers in Christ I send very warm greetings from Cape Town to you all. Deutscher Evangelischer Kirchentag is a special organization that occupies a special place in this old man’s heart. It has played an exemplary and prophetic role in gently nudging modern Germany, with its powerful economy, towards using its power actively and compassionately for justice. I remember how, in the 1980s, you struggled with your consciences over taking “a clear stand” against apartheid – and ultimately acted on your impulse to do the right thing, closing your accounts at Deutsche Bank over its dealings with South Africa. Thank you.

Orthodox Patriarchate Denounces Israeli Attempts To Fragment Palestinians

Father Issa Musleh, spokesperson of the Christian Orthodox Church in occupied Jerusalem, said the Israeli law is the true form of “divide and conquer”, adding that it is part of many Israeli attempts which have been rejected by the Church. An example of this is the draft law to recruit Arab Palestinian Christians in Israel, to join the Israeli military, as part of the attempts to create internal tension and divisions among Palestinian Christians themselves, and to create conflicts between Muslim and Christian Arabs and Palestinians.
