As we approach Easter, a time of renewal and resurrection, we Palestinian Christians stand at a crossroad—one that will determine whether our presence in the land where Christ was born, crucified, and resurrected will endure or fade into history. The threats facing us and all Palestinians—land confiscation, forced displacement, physical assaults and violent arrests, targeted killings, movement restrictions, economic strangulation, and political marginalization—have reached a critical point.

 Kairos Palestine, together with various Palestinian civil society organizations, is producing this booklet as part of the preparations and promise of Advent. In this booklet, we will once again focus on Bethlehem and some of the problems its inhabitants face today:

On the 1^st Advent Sunday: We will shed light on the refugees and refugee camps in Bethlehem.

On the 2^nd Advent Sunday: We will focus on the plight of Palestinian prisoners, both   children and adults.

On the 3^rd Advent Sunday: We will address one of the major difficulties and injustices facing many Palestinian families: the divisions afflicting individual families due to obstacles imposed by the Israeli state. These obstacles that prevent families from being unified and living together violate a basic human   right.

On the 4^th Advent Sunday: We will talk about the main cause that pushes Palestinians to leave their country: namely, settler violence against them, their properties, their land, and their trees.

This alert focuses on Palestinian Christians who are concentrated in an area referred to as the Christian triangle: Bethlehem, Beit Jala, and Beit Sahour. This area is being strangled – in terms of access to land, water, health services, education, general mobility, and all related rights –by the unabated wave of settlement construction. Moreover, the forcible isolation of the triangle with its center, Jerusalem, is damaging both to people in Jerusalem and in the Bethlehem area. The facts on the ground are bleak. Land confiscation, as well as the influx of Israeli settlers, suggest that there will be no future for Palestinians (whether Christian or Muslim) in the triangle area. In this sense, the prospect of a clear “solution” grows darker every day.
